Just got back and need to shoot out again...will try and also look with you later.

Meant to add this earlier. The possible entry on the valuation roll in 1875 I was thinking of for David Thomson, given his place of death a couple of years later, is this one:

1875 - Tenant Occupier. David THOMSON. House BARTERHOLM in ABBEY, Paisley Burgh. Ref: VR66 / 33 / 494

As I mentioned, not much personal details on there likely, but maybe clues from occupation and who else from the family may have been living nearby.

As a reminder, this is what the valuation rolls cover www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Content/Help/index.aspx?r=554&2080

Ahhh...Jonn, little baby Ann Thomson b. 1855 died 1856 (not 1866):

1856   Anne THOMSON   (mother's maiden surname MCQUEEN) age 0 in BOWMORE OR KILARROW   /ARGYLL - ref 536/00 0006

That then explains likely the naming of new baby as Agnes at the end of that year of Anne's death (1856). And it is Agnes b. 1856 who shows in the common variant of Ann on the 1861 census and then as Agnes in 1871....I think  ;)

...So that means that my Margaret McQueen is possibly Peggy who was christened in 1816 in Killarrow with parents Donald McQueen and Nancy Clark. Does that seem likely? I found a sibling, John, with same parents chr in 1819, but can't see any other siblings on Familysearch.

I would be happy, if you, with Margaret's name first registered as Peggy...variants are variants, no matter where you start first  ;)

Some siblings to Margaret seem to be:

John MacQueen in Kildalton 27 January 1819 - you have this already

Malcolm MacQueen in Bowmore/ Kilarrow 31 August 1823

Mary MacQueen in Bowmore/Kilarrow 24 February 1826

Parents show as Donald and mother Ann or Nancy Clark/e.

The marriage for parents showed on 1815 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTK6-L5T

Likely Margaret/Peggy first born in 1816 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XB2Q-D8J

No problem, Jonn...your finding is what has helped firm everything up for that period in the 1850s  :)

Amazing finds everyone -sorry got sidetracked with painting coving and reading about the history and geography of Islay!
Ruskie that round church is rather special but I'm afraid I'd have to opt for the Telford one with the stunning interior  8)

Monica F*P has David down in 71 as labourer in a bleachworks - looks like he had to turn his hand to anything to earn a living.

Hi Jen

We get sidetracked don't we when looking at the areas and events of the time - what makes it fun!

Labourer at bleachworks (much better transcript  ;)).. Is this for David Thomson, patient in 1871?

Regarding Malcolm McQueen, Margaret's brother. He married an Isabella Robertson in 1857

#18 23 Dec 1857
Malcolm McQueen 29 Donald McQueen Ann Clark
Isabella Robertson 24 John Robertson Mary McLean
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SCT-ISLAY/2002-05/1021596840

1861 here I think (going by IGI children):

Malcolm MacQueen 30 Farmer Of 20 Acres b. Kilarrow
Isabella MacQueen 26 b. Kildalton, Argyllshire
John MacQueen 2 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYBJ-JLV
Mary MacQueen 1 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XY5Y-FJ1
Christy Robertson 7 niece b. Glasgow
Address: Lower Torra, Kilarrow

Another 5 children show after 1861 on Family Search.

Hadn't checked...but Margaret's mother, Ann Clark looks to be alive in 1871 and living with son Malcolm:

Malcolm McQueen 44, Roadman b. Kilarrow, Argyllshire
John McQueen 12 b. Kildalton, Argyllshire
Mary McQueen 11 b. Kilarrow, Argyllshire
Ann McQueen 9 b. Kilarrow, Argyllshire
Alexander McQueen 8 b. Kilarrow, Argyllshire
Donald McQueen 6 b. Kilarrow, Argyllshire
Malcolm McQueen 4 b. Kilarrow, Argyllshire
Ann Clark McQueen 70, mother, b. Kilarrow, Argyllshire
Address: Braehead, Cardross, Dumbartonshire

Likely mother Ann Clark a little light on age for 1871 given she married in 1815, but probably not by much. Maybe this entry for her? https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTJ3-9QX At least you know that her DC will be on record on SP...when you are ready to venture into the next generation  ;D
