Hamilton Hepburn
« on: Thursday 24 October 13 16:11 BST (UK) »
Hamilton Hepburn was born in about 1766 and she married James Tweedie in 1794 at Lasswade. They lived for many years in Glencorse. The 1841 Census states that she was born outside Midlothian. Has anyone any ideas, please? She had many daughters, but only two sons. Based on naming patterns it is possible her father was Andrew Hepburn.  Andrew Wilson

If her fathers name was Andrew there was this Andrew having children in 1750s

James Hepburn

Scotland, Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950

birth:    3 April 1751
christening:    7 April 1751    , ATHELSTANEFORD, EAST LOTHIAN, SCOTLAND
residence:    1751    Athelstaneford, East Lothian, Scotland

father:    Andrew Hepburn
mother:    Marrion Crawfoord

It maybe possible that the birth of your Hamilton was not recorded but some of her siblings were. I am not sure if above is correct but it could be a clue if he is her father.

Is it worth mentioning that she would be really easy to find on Scotlands people payperview website:
Old Parish Records Births & Christenings 1755 - 1854 (1 match)
Old Parish Records Banns & Marriages 1755 - 1854   (2 matches)

Maybe you could request someone with a spare credit look it up for you

Wemyss/Crombie/Laing/Blyth (West Wemyss)
Givens/Normand (Dysart)
Clark/Lister (Dysart)
Wilkinson/Simson (Kettle or Kettlehill)

Hi whiteout7 it is not so easy to find names in old parish records held on Scotland people site if the persons records are not listed there. See my previous response the person they are looking for is not in the opr, not everybody was. Some possible siblings could be. The original poster has not replied on this anyway so must have lost interest?

Tidybooks and dunvr:  Thank you for your comments. I absolutely have not lost interest, but have continued for many years to trace my ancestors in Midlothian, Peeblesshire, Lanarkshire, Dumfriesshire and, above all, Orkney!! My guess is that Hamilton Hepburn came from East Lothian.  Andrew Wilson
