County Sligo is basically an agricultural area although at one time there was a weaving industry and some mining operations in the county. The Rootsweb Co. The Methodists in Sligo opened a meeting-house in Bridge Street about 1775.
It was described as "a small tumble-down building with a thatched roof". In 1802, they opened a new church in Linenhall St. (now Old Market Street), and in 1832 replaced it with the present building in Wine Street.
