McMeel

I am looking for family members of Patrick McMeel and Rose McKenna, also, family members of James McMeel and Anne Trenor.

Patrick and Rose had a daughter Margaret (b. about 1855) who married a Michael McMeel son of James and Anne.

Michael and Margaret married in the Parish of Tydavnet on 26.8.1879, he listed his address as Knocknagrave, Donagh and she as Tonyclea.

Michael was b. 7.9.1845 he was from Caldavnet, Parish of Tydavnet County Monaghan, Ireland.

Margaret and Michael settled in the Scott's Creek/Timboon area of Victoria, Australia.

Griffiths Valuation for Caldavnet in 1860 lists a household headed by a James McIlwell. I suspect that could be an alternative spelling of McMeel. James had plot 6 in the townland which was a farmhouse, outbuildings and 6 acres (subsistence farming). Nearby was Owen McIlwell (sic) on plot 1, with a farmhouse, outbuildings and c 23 acres.

You say that Michael McMeel was from Caldavnet. If so, I suspect that plot 6 is probably where he came from.



The tithe applotment records (created for tax purposes) for 1826 show the following people in Knocknagrave in 1826:

Michael Mcelmeel, Peter, Terence & Arthur.

Michael McElmeel, Patrick, John & James.
