Thanks for the information regarding the barracks and the Ale House records. I had hoped I would have found something connecting William to his wife's family from the records, but this looks like another dead end. I will keep persevering!

The Suffolk Quarter Sessions were organised in four divisions, meeting once a year in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Beccles and Woodbridge. You would be looking for the County Licensing Committee these will be at Suffolk Record Office, Bury St Edmunds  and  'Access to Archives' database may have them
Leicestershire:Chamberlain, Dakin, Wilkinson, Moss, Cook, Welland, Dobson, Roper,Palfreman, Squires, Hames, Goddard, Topliss, Twells,Bacon.
Northamps:Sykes, Harris, Rice,Knowles.
