James Stanton of Yaxley (miller)
« on: Friday 06 June 14 01:04 BST (UK) »
Latest chap I'm looking at is a James Stanton from Yaxley.  He appears to have been there between 1827 & 1844.  Married to a Martha (Who & where from?), and had a number of children there.  I found a posting on the internet awhile ago that spoke of a will, in about 1876.  Does anyone know anything about this will?
Other millers at Yaxley went by the names of Offord, Lock, Flowerdew, Cracknell & Mortimer.  Was James related to any of them?

Thanks in advance,
Windy

Hi Lizdb,
Thanks.  So he was at three different mills (excluding Yaxley where he may have been a jouneyman miller?).
Is there one of those funny ref. numbers that go with the Will?  I expect it was proved in Bury?

Proved Ipswich.

No idea if he was the miller at each of those places. Maybe Worlingworth was the home of the son and he went to live with him for his last days.

No ref. (I've never seen a ref myself in the post-1858 Probate index, only for pre-1858 Wills)

Hi Trish, Thats interesting as Jacob Stanton was miller in Pulham St. Mary in 1790s.  No doubt his father.  It looks like Jacob came over the border about same time as I also have time in Weybread, when he was selling both mills having gone bust!
