Have checked the Napier Burials fiche. It says that George Stuart HILL aged 34 year old died in 1876 in Napier. He was survived by four children, two boys and two girls. Nicely ties in with the four children mentioned in the original post.

Regards
Beg

That would also explain why there were no further children born in NZ

I may be on the wrong track here but........

There is a report in the 'Poverty Bay Herald' dated 9.7.1889 concerning the arrest on false pretences of one George Stuart HILL from Napier. Also mentions "deserting his wife on a bed of confinement".

I had not been able to find the birth registration for Harry HILL mentioned in his father's obituary. [See earlier post.]

There is a birth registration for one Henry Richard HILL born 18.7.1889. Parents: Karen Bolletta & George Stewart HILL.

A marriage for this couple: Karen Bolette Nicholson & George HILL in 1888.

Henry Richard appears to have been the only child born to this couple. Is he the missing Harry HILL?

A second marriage not yet found for George Stewart/Stuart HILL.

Thank you all again. It is incredible that after being unable to confirm an aged aunt's information for nearly 50 years, now within 18 hours I have confirmation of everything she said (except for the connection to Sir Kenneth Hill) and a document on order from New Zealand which may shed light on a 3 x GGM.

Fantastic.

Minniehaha: You have unearthed an intriguing possibility.  The Henry Richard Hill looks very likely as the Harry of the Feilding Star obit is referred to as (albeit barely legibly) as H R Hill in the Auckland Star version.  But how does Karen Bolette become Catherine Henrietta?

If this is going up the correct tree, that is the big question!

A marriage not (so far) found for Catherine Henrietta & George. Nor has a birth been found for Harry Hill with parents Catherine & George.

I'm wondering if Karen was his first wife and that he didn't actually marry Catherine?

Anyway I thought I would just throw it into the mix. More work to be done to prove this, one way or the other.

Some connections, perhaps??

From the 'Feilding Star' dated 6.10.1911, wedding of Henry Richard Hill. ......of Palmertson North, formerly of Feilding.

From the 'Manawatu Standard' dated 7.10.1911, wedding of Henry Richard Hill. .......Miss Lily Hill, a bridesmaid, sister of the bridegroom.

From the 'Auckland Star' dated 4.3.1919. Mention of Henry Richard Hill, clerk in charge of advertising for the 'Auckland Star'.

Hi Minnie... :)

Is it too much of a stretch to just think they changed Karen to Catherine and Boletta to Henrietta. Would make things easier :-)

Don't suppose you've come across the widow Catherine Henrietta HILL anywhere. Comparing her death certificate to the 1888 marriage certificate for Karen Boletta would be helpful (but expensive).

Just noticed that the names "Karen Boletta" pop up a bit in Norwegian families. So the "Nicholson" may once have been "Nikolsdotter".

Beg

Hi,

Throwing this into the mix:  Elimination or not :D

1893  Kate Henrietta Hill on E/R as a housekeeper in Palmerston North.

1917 Alien Records -  Kate Henrietta Hill, aged 46, birth country, Norway. Years in NZ 44.

1921 Katie Henrietta Hill married a John Haines.

There is a Probate held at Wellington Archives for a Kate Henrietta Haines for 1949 and a burial location for Hastings Cemetery.

Cheers
