I am not sure what to say you have been very busy, thank very much for the information and to Jeanette for adding the previous thread so that it does not become very complicated.

Yes, on the passenger list for their voyage to New Zealand, William is written down as Master W G Murray, I can only think that either the person has got carried away with the pen or his parents have added this information, which I would have thought the letter "G" probably stands for Gardiner.   William had three sisters with the middle name as Gardiner (Margaret Gardiner Murray, Jessie Gardiner Murray and Georgina Gardiner Murray).  Gardiner is their mother's (Barbara) Maiden name.

But on william's birth certificate he is just "William Murray".

Thank you all very much for all the information given.

Regards
Oletta

Hi Oletta

Thanks for the clarification re: William MURRAY.       Yes, I rather suspected when I saw his name on the 1922 electoral roll, that he perhaps only had the one christian name.

Of course, given the many men of that name residing in New Zealand, coupled with the fact that William may have changed his occupation at some later date, it presents a difficult task to "nail him down".

I can see only one "possibility" for a William MURRAY who is listed in the New Zealand Death index.
Will add a note in next post to see if anybody viewing this thread can locate a burial / cemetery record for him.

Hi KHP

Just wondered if you may be able to locate the following death on burial locator, please ?   :)

1968 - MURRAY - William -- aged 66 years.

Date of death was > 12 January 1968 > (meaning if it is the William being sought, then he was just short of his 67th birthday on 26 January ).

Thanks
    ~  Lu

PS:   Can't see a probate record for above William.

Hi again Oletta

I see you have another enquiry (current thread) re: NZ Wills / Probate.   Not sure whether you were planning to source the Probate record for Thomas MURRAY -- 1955 (as was mentioned in your earlier 2010 thread) ???  ;)

If all else fails in the search for William MURRAY in NZ, then I would recommend you seek a look-up at Auckland Archives New Zealand, for the probate file of Thomas MURRAY (it may contain mention of his children.)

Here's the direct link to the Archives reference on the Archives NZ website, Archway.  >

Incidentally, Thomas MURRAY appears to have been living with (or near to) his married daughter, Jessie Gardiner LINTON (and her husband) in 1954.

1954 - Auckland - Hauraki Roll

MURRAY - Thomas - Kerepehi - occupation:  Tailor
LINTON - Jessie Gardiner - Kerepehi - married
LINTON - Francis Armstrong - Kerepehi - stockman

You may be interested in having these details too ??

Burial records - Hastings District Council website :

http://cemeterybase.hdc.govt.nz/

Hastings Cemetery

LINTON - Jessie Gardener - 73 years - died 12 October 1978

BULL - Jean Beattie - aged 82 years - death / or burial date - 16 July 1990

It seems that the widowed Jessie went to live in or near to her sister Jean BULL.   In 1978 Jessie was residing at Ferry Road, Clive, Hawkes Bay (a similar address to that of Jean. )

Edited to add:    The Cemetery database provides a link to "view headstone" (for both Jessie and Jean)-  but clicking on those respective links reveals "image not available"  ???

Probably not of any help (unless you're wanting info for the daughters of Thomas MURRAY).

There is a probate file held at Archives New Zealand (Wellington office) for Jessie Gardiner LINTON.   [It is also listed on the FamilySearch website > NZ Probate Records > but the actual image of same is not available. ]
Curiously the file is shown with a date range of "1961 - 1978".   ("1961" is probably explained by the fact that Jessie's husband Francis Armstrong LINTON died in 1960, though there is no probate record for him.)
