Stembridge - Birdport, Dorset

I am trying to piece together some information on one of my ancestors Simeon Stembridge brn 14 Apr 1790, dies 17 may 1877 both in Birdport. He Married Rebekah Bishop 22 Oct 1810. He had several children with Rebekah and I believe he may have remarried at least twice. I believe his Father was John Stembridge or Stimbridge from Crewekerne. Somerset. Details on Simeon, His Parent or Grandparents would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean Bridport?

1861 entry shows he was b Crewkerne Somerset - not Bridport which was just where he lived

Again from Family Search - and also freebmd  www.freebmd.org.uk.  However - there is an 1851 entry for a Simeon Stembridge b 1817 Bridport - no wife shown but has a 4yr old child

In 1841 - Simeon seniors  wife was Rebecca - she died later in 1841 - see freebmd

In 1851 he is indexed as Hambidge b Rewkenn    Married to Elizabeth

Hi Carole, It is Bridport. Looks like the Stembridge line though may have come form Crewkerne, Somerset a few miles up the road

In 1871 he is indexed as Samson and married to Ann - see freebmd - 1863 marriage to Ann Devall

The 1863 marriage to Ann Devall (29 Sep 1863) lists him as a widower, age 70, with his father's name given as John Stembridge.

The original baptismal entry in the Presbyterian register doesn't give any extra information beyond John and Sarah's name, and that they lived in Crewkerne.

Dorset History Centre has a bastardy paper from Aug 1810 in which a Mary Gale names Simeon Bembridge, labourer of Bridport.

I've been looking at Simeon's parent's John Stembridge and Sarah Burres and trying to trace the next generation. Both I think were born in Crewkerne in 1761. John's father is maybe a Richard Stembridge but not certain. struggling to go much further with Sarah.

STEMBRIDGE (Bridport, DOR & Crewkerne, SOM)
I have "Simeon STEMBRIDGE" on my family tree.  From his Baptism his Parents are listed as John & Sarah STEMBRIDGE. [John STEMBRIDGE & Sarah BURROWS].  Simeon 1st Marriage was to Rebecca Greening BISHOP, 22nd October 1810 at Bridport, DOR. Rebecca died in 1841 and Simeon remarried (2) Elizabeth STIBY nee COX in 1846 - Widow of Robert STIBY. She died in 1863 then (3) Ann DEVALL, Spinster, in 1863.
