Hi Jim.
Many thanks for the information on Bill Burnett,
Would I be right in thinking that Bill Burnett,s father was John Burnett and his mother then was Susan McDonagh. Took these names from headstone in Seagoe Cemetary during a visit,
John died 13.12.1971 and Susan died 22.12.1988. What church would the older generation have gone to, St Marks C.oI or Armagh Road pres which I presume is near Millicent Terrace.All the Burnett,s lived in Millicent Terrace at the signing of the Covenant in 1912.
Any information on the family would be appreciated

Hello Curley,

you have got the right family.  Bill's mother was a Quaker, I'm not sure which church John and Susan belonged to.  I think Bill and his wife were associated with First Edenderry Presbyterian, I could be wrong on that.

Bill is one of the best, honest, hard working, a very linkable person.

Cheers,

Jim.

Thanks Aljepeka,

The Millicent Terrace question set me thinking about other local customized names.  I have started a new topic titled 'Portadown Streets - Custom Names

Cheers,

Jim.

Hello Curley,

yesterday I uploaded six clips to YouTube.  Subject;  Portadown Festival of Britain 1951 P6 of 6

You might be interested in viewing part six, at 1 minute 22 seconds you will see Burnetts shop, in the clip it shows the local fire-brigade demonstrating their skills from the roof of Burnetts shop!  It can be funny but not so funny if it had been a real fire.

The original Burnett building no longer exists, terrorist laid a bomb in the centre of town in the 70/80's causing terrible destruction, many of the buildings, including Burnetts, had to be demolished and rebuilt.

Here is a link to the YouTube video;
