Marriage Alexander Aitken - Saltcoats area

Hi

I'm trying to locate the marriage of Alexander Aitken to Mary (unknown) around 1934. Both lived in Saltcoats. Alexander was born there about 1909.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Have you looked on Scotlands People which is the only website with that type of info for that period

The index is free but you would have to buy credits to download the marriage cert.  You can only download marriage certs up to 1937

A quick check on the index shows only one match in Ayr which was in 1934

Hi, found details of the marriage. Two very startling coincidences included.

Alexander Aitken born  Saltcoats 17 October 1909. Father William Aitken, foreman explosives worker. Married Mary White Aitken 19 November 1934. Mary's father William Aitken coal miner. Both Alexander and Mary were living in Saltcoats when they got married.

Yup, very strange. Think there may be cousins involved in earlier generations! They also lived in the same street according to some of the census returns.

Did you discover where the marriage took place - I believe it to be Stevenston but have not had confirmation.

Hi Westfrem, sorry I didn't particularly notice the specific place where the marriage took place.  Also, although I didn't actually write down where Alexander and Mary where living when they got married, I do definitely remember from the details on the  marriage certificate that they were staying at different addresses in Saltcoats at the time - not the same street. I won't be visiting the records office for a wee while now but when I do I will be sure to note where exactly where they were married.

According to Ayrshire Roots Intimations database, Alexander and Mary White (May) [sic] were married in Landsborough Church, Saltcoats.
