Do you think Sarah aged 17 on 1871 Census and apparently married to James McKenna is the smae girl as Helena  aged 7 on 1861? Both born in Irvine.....

Pretty sure that she is Sarah

I feel certain that daughter Sarah McKenna will be the link to finding the info on missing Bridget.
As per usual with this family... I can't find the  Sarah or her husband after 1881

Gidday Weeaza and my fellow family historians

I have just opened up my PC having spent the morning in our local public Library searching on Ancestry.

Today I had found the family in 1871 Rutherglen census as a result but like I am totally OVER THE MOON with the discovery you have made.

John Doolaghty and Bridget Glynn were the parents of my g.grandfather John Doloughty (aka Doolaghty and various other spelling variations) who was murdered in Ennis, Co Clare, in July 1882.   A young man Francis Hynes was later executed at Limerick for the crime.  The Clare Heritage Centre did a report back in 1994 listing details on the family.

The murdered John had several siblings one of whom was listed as Bridget baptised 5.2.1833.  John Delahunty (note the spelling at civil reg)  her father died at Corebeg, Co Clare in 1885 and he was a "tailor".  His wife Bridget was present at his death.  She died soon after in 1893 in the Workhouse, Ennis and her death was registered as "Doolaghty" from Corebeg.

Yes, the family surname has been a bit of a nightmare...but fortunately not too common in Co Clare!  What can I say...I've just toll called one of my brothers  in the North Island, NZ such is the excitement here!

 :) :) :)

Really pleased the jigsaw pieces have all come together Alma and you've been able to connect this family with your GG grandparents.
The story of your great grandfather sounds tragic but very interesting :(
Good luck with your further research,
Looby :)

Hi Alma,

Pleased to have helped.
I can't find a death for Bridget.
The only BMD's I can find for anyone named Doolaughty or various spellings are:
John Kennedy, Illegitimate, b. 27th Oct 1875, 5 New Street, Rutherglen. Birth registered by Bridget. John Kennedy (father) was a witness at registration.
John Kennedy, McCutchion or Dolaughty, 11 weeks, Died 22nd Jan 1876, 26 King Street Rutherglen. Registered by John Kennedy.

Ann Brown Murray Kennedy (indexed Dolaughty), Illegitimate, b. 24th July 1873, 11 Stonelaw Street, Rutherglen. Registered by Bridget McCutchion. John Kennedy, father, present.

It looks as if they had a couple children before they got married.

Steven  :)
