Hello,
This may not add much to what you have, but my mum and dad briefly managed a Somerscales' Fish and Chip shop in Queen's Road, I think,  for a few months in 1946/7.
I was a small boy then and attended the C of E primary school nearby. Wasn't the company head office head office  situated in Friary St. or vicinity?  I remember the Head Manager - Mac - an expansive gentleman who kindly gave generous tips to such as myself.

The shop was a pokey little place and part of the living accommodation was in a gloomy basement. My mum always claimed that it was haunted!  True enough it seemed spooky to me.
They then moved to the company's shop in London Rd. Newbury - just about the time of the big freeze of 1947. They remained there doing very good business - the only fast food in town - until the earl 50's, when they left Somerscales and went to Henley.
Does that fill it out a bit?

During the early 70s, I am sure the fish and chip shops were run by Vernon Perdue who lived in Earley
