Archibald / John Johnstone Marriage Transcription is as follows. Date married 30 August 1902 Broken Hill.
Groom John Johnstone
Bachelor : Birth Place Wilcannia, NSW : Occupation Miner Silver Miner : Age 22 : Usual Residence Broken Hill NSW : Father Charles Johnstone : Mother Mary Wise: Occupation - Father Shearer.
Bride : Annie Amelia Humphries: Birth Place Banlore, East Indies : Occupation Domestic : Age 18 : Father Samuel Humphries : Annie Amelia Middle.

Sorry, but I have a list of questions to do with that marriage

What denomination?
Where did the marriage ceremony take place?
Who were the witnesses?
What name for the person who gave consent for the bride to marry?
What was the stated relationship of that person to the bride?
What was the occupation of the Bride's father?
Was anyone noted as 'deceased' on that transcription?
Was it a full transcription or a partial transcription?
Was the name "Archibald" mentioned anywhere on that transcription?

Cheers,  JM

Thanks for that further info.

1903 ER THE BARRIER    (December 1903 elections)
Polling at Broken Hill North
HUMPHRIES
Ann Amelia, Blende St, domestic duties
Graham, Blende St, miner
(I cannot find Samuel HUMPHRIES on the Broken Hill ER in 1903, I presume Ann listed above would likely be Mrs Johnstone’s mum, perhaps Graham is also related, but there’s no house names, or street numbers on this particular roll).      I wonder if L HUMPHRIES was Samuel, as in a possible poor scribble from the clergy to the NSW BDM leading to a possible confusion between the old fashioned long hand “L” and “S”.    Still, that’s not finding your Charles JOHNSTONE, shearer.

Do you know when John became known as Archibald?   (approximately ?)

Cheers,  JM

Hi JM
reply to # 21. Do you know when John became known as Archibald? A birth certificate for one of his children in September 1924 he used Archibald. Also his divorce paper from Annie 1929 he was also Archibald. In a funeral notice Broken Hill Jan 1955 he was named as Jack Archibald. He swaps names between each of the children birth

If there is no birth record to find yet, where does this birth date come from...

"....Archibald Johnstone born14 January 1880 Wilcannia  NSW".

About the use of name John / Archibald...when the name is on the birth certificate that you have, is the informant the father, or is it mother....ie...when he is naming himself is Archibald consistent with his name....and maybe other people such as wife are flexible with his name.......

To the extent that you can see BDM certificates, does he always name himself Archibald?
