Trying to find out what happened to William Walter Lisle
« on: Saturday 06 September 14 18:02 BST (UK) »
I'm looking to find what happened to a William Walter Lisle b.1891 in Newburn, Northumberland (shown as 1892 on the enlistment papers) who emigrated to Canada in 1912 and Enlisted at Smiths Falls 42nd Regiment in 1915.

He returns to Canada in December 1919.

On 5 February 1919 he marries a Sarah Paterson b.1899 in Shettleston, Lanarkshire.

Address at the time of marriage is 48 Ashdale Avenue, Toronto.

The marriage is witnessed by his brother Thomas Lisle and his wife Ann who emigrated to Canada 1913. Thomas lives at 236 Worley Avenue, Toronto at the time of the marriage.

I have been unable to trace either William or his brother on the 1921 Canadian census (Ancestry says the census is complete). Probably doing something wrong!

Any advice or help gratefully received.
Descendants of Robert Lisle b1721 d1803 of Bamburgh, Northumberland

Hmmm - no sign - must be mis-transcribed.  Thomas obviously stayed in Toronto, he appears on the Canada Voters List a lot later with daughters.  31 Frankland Avenue, York, Ontario in 1935 and 78 Beachview Crescent, Toronto, Ontario.

Hi Hattie

The only William Lisle I can see is

1921 Census

William Lisle b England 1883
Edeath Lilse b England 1883
Jackson Lisle b 1911

Living with a Blowes family

I wonder if Sarah died, and he remarried Edeath, and she already had a son and he took the Lisle name

Nearest one that I can see is mis-transcribed -  William Liste who is William Lisle born 1894 - Parents born England.  Residing 14 Cariton Street with a  wife Mary Lisle aged 22 years  - born 1899  - both roomers. William is a salesman. Immigrated 1918.  Mary Immigrated 1911. Parents born Scotland.

Hi,

Would Thomas be Thomas Roger, born 1883?  If so, he died in Mimico on April 11 1968.  Wife Annie Walker predeceased him.  5 children listed... I can probably name them - given the D.O.B. of the father...John of Montreal, Dorothea (Mrs R Hepburn) of Etobicoke, Charles of Port Credit, Eunice (Mrs C Buck) of Welland, Ross of Willowdale.  Thomas is buried in Spring Creek Cemetery, Clarkson.  Obit in the Toronto Star  11 April 1968, Page B48.

RK - don't think those are the names - daughters should be Vera/Veronica Isabel born 1908 and Annie Robertson born 1912.  Thomas was born 1881/2 and wife Jane Ann Robertson 1882
