children's home or hospital Dunoon 50s, 60s
« on: Friday 13 April 12 13:30 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to fill some blanks in my memory. In the late 50s or 60s I spent time in a kids home or hospital or similar in the Dunoon area. I think the name was 'Catherine Mary' or 'Margaret Mary' but I'm not entirely sure. Any info or hints would be very welcome.

Could it have been Dunclutha Chidren's Home, on the Parade, in Kirn (next to Dunoon)?

Thanks for the response. I'm fairly certain it wasn't Dunclutha. D

Thanks v much for this. I'll switch my search to Kilmun. I have a memory of going to a church event in Dunoon while at the home which made me think it must have been in Dunoon. D

Might it have been Castle Toward Daniel?

Skoosh.

Definitely not Castle Toward, Skoosh, I was lucky enough to go there when I was a bit older.

Hello. Pleased to solve your mystery.  Your memory is sound. It was the Catherine Mary Home. I remember it pretty well. It was situated on the corner of Argyll Street and Argyll Road.

It has been demolished and replaced by Dunoon's Police Station.

I do have a picture of it taken in wartime when it was the residence of Wrens from HMS Osprey which was not too far away and coincidentally the site of the Convalescent Homes suggested by another poster.

Hope this helps.          Manager of Dunoon's Castle House Museum.
