COMPLETED THANK YOU Birth Lookup please -McMenamin
« on: Friday 07 September 12 13:52 BST (UK) »
Hello all

I am new to Scottish research in the 1900's, is there a way I or anyone else can look up a birth free of charge for me please?  I just had a look on the Scotlands People website, but wondered if there are any other ways?

I'm looking for the birth of William McMenamin, bn 1915, Glasgow (city or area I don't know).  I don't know parents names, but I do know he had a brother, J McMenamin and maybe a sister, N Collins (in 1977).

He had cousins named Brundell, so it's possible that was his mothers name?

Thanks for any help you can give.x

Hi ,

Births after 1911 are not available to view online and would have to be ordered
Perhaps someone going to a research centre would be willing to do a look up for you

Oh ok. Thank you for your reply Ev.

I don't have Williams marriage certificate, I don't think there is any other way to find out who his parents were then?

There is a birth 1915 in Springburn, Glasgow for a William McMenamin but as Ev has said it is too recent to be viewed online

Do you know who and when he married?

If you don't know the names of his parents can you be sure of locating the correct birth certificate  :-\

Ah yes that is true and I'm finding the surname was a bit more common than I expected.

I may have to see if the marriage was mentioned in the local paper to see if that gives many clues and names.

Using the Springburn location, there is a family on the 1911 census index

William 31
Johanna 27
Thomas 3
John 2
James 0

Possible marriage for the above couple

1906 MCMENAMIN WILLIAM and MCGETTIGAN JOHANNA at ST ROLLOX GLASGOW CITY/LANARK
