Hi Raymie

So this is the 1871 you have:

David Gordon 35, plasterer b. Perth
Kate Gordon 33 b. Midford, Ayrshire
Elizabeth Gordon 11 b. Glasgow
Alexr Gordon 8 b. England
John Gordon 5 b. England
William Gordon 3 b. England

Address: 25 Mansfield St, Partick

Odd that in the 1881 entry you mention, for a David Gordon, aged 45 and a Plasterer from Perth, he showed as unmarried.

From what we had before on the other post www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=679128.0, the last child showing for them I think was James b. 1872 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQP4-D5H

Hopefully someone can find the family, together or separate, for 1881  :)

Yeah thats them, i spotted that Monica unmarried tut tut ::) . Seems the bold Davies a traveller , had a very busy life travelling around the country and his father being a Shipmaster and moving too , itchy feet if in one place too long  :)
One other thing ,does Customs Returns mean anything on the 1881 English census and could Catherine be in the Poorhouse ?

'Customs Return' just means like it would today, that it is a log/shipping manifest of the "Iona" vessel taken on the night of the census. The 'Iona' must have been docked at the port in Orford at the time of the census and a full census was then taken of all on board. Old map here showing Orford www.visionofbritain.org.uk/place/20060

Catherine and children are still awol for 1881  :-\

Thought id give Cathrine another go . I put the 1871 census with Catherine on it to the Handwriting forum and they agreed her birthplace was Melfort ,Argyllshire .app 1836. Her parents on her marriage lines were John McLachlan and Agnes Livingstone but on her death cert it looks like Duncan McLachlan and Ann Livingstone .On a 1851 census in Water Row Glasgow (same street named in wedding cert) theres an Ann McLachlan 54 ,Kath 15 and Ann 12? .Mothers birthplace was Island of Luing 1806 app.Cant seem to find any trace as McLachlan and Livingstones very common name there .

For Catherine's mother, Agnes and Ann not a problem as they are first name variants www.whatsinaname.net/php/search.php?action=search2&search_name=agnes

For father, John and Duncan, likely errors have crept in...

Great 1851 find for a family link to Catherine  :)
