michael kennedy monivea
« on: Sunday 17 November 13 20:00 GMT (UK) »
hi just wondering would anyone have any information on a man called michael kennedy from monivea. He was the son of john francis kennedy and elizabeth newell. apparently he was a bit of a trouble maker and was always fighting, not ideal when your father is the local sargent! The story goes that he left and never returned home again after his father disowned him. i have no dates yet for him of any kind but just wnted to see if this story sounds familar to anyone.
Thanks all!

I'm also researching Kennedys in the area in that time frame, and also a police officer in the family, but he was a constable in the RIC named James Kennedy, wife Anne McGuire (or MaGuire). There is a son Michael, but he's older - born in 1870. Do you have any info about the father's siblings?

You will most likely find him on later American census if he survived war.

Edit or post him on the United States board here on RootsChat.

This is the tricky part with the name "Kennedy" - which one is it exactly. I've sent for the RIC record for James Kennedy. I would like to see who recommended him for service, since it was probably a relative. You could do the same for Michael's father if you are interested. That would tell you places and dates of service, and you can probably find siblings by birth registration. I've found the family memories to be a bit off at best.

Wow! Thank you that is amazing information! Had no clue where to look as didn't know which country he would have gone to. Thanks so much  :)
I also know that his father came from roscommon but didn't look for any siblings as of yet. As far as i know the ric officers were not allowed to serve in there home counties so chances are both our Kennedy came from different parts of the country. Will investigate more!
Thanks again for all the replys  delighted with this new information!
