Thomas Hand/Hann, County Meath
« on: Thursday 29 November 12 14:55 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find Thomas Hand/Hann birth and parents
He married Jane Miller 28 Apr 1836, Lobinstown but no parents were listed on the marriage record
They had 5 children in Lobinstown before moving to Dublin 1847-1851
The Jane i have was born 20 June 1819, Drumconrath so would only be 16 when married but have no age for Thomas

your problem is going to be the availability of records - RC baptisms for Lobinstown parish go back to 1823 - so probably not far enough to include details for Thomas and/or Jane if they were born in the area. 1830 would be the average starting date for rural RC parish records.

see : Lobinstown, Co. Meath, RC records  (Irish Times)

Thanks Shane
Looks like that will be as far as i go with the Hand family
Drumconrath must have started records earlier as Jane came up in 1919 with parents and sponsors so was lucky with that family

Thanks again
Eddie

there are useful RC parish maps on the Times website - include dates for which records are available, civil parishes & townlands covered etc

see :Co. Meath RC Parishes

Syddan COI parish is/was in the same geographic area as Lobinstown.
I found a full family of Hann's listed there some time ago as I have a particular interest in this family and the fairly unique spelling of the surname.

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlmea2/Church/parish_of_syddan.htm

Anthony or George on that list are potential parents of Thomas based on estimates of ages, etc.
I managed to order some baptism records of these Hanns in the Lobinstown RC register via IFHF some time ago.
One was very interesting in that it showed an elderly member of the family having taken the RC faith and denounced his original COI faith (in the 1830s, if I recall during time of Emancipation!)
I also had noted some members of the family adopting the local/Gaelic name of Hand at certain times. I have more info and I have PMed the OP.

Hi Liam

My connection is Anne born 1836 who married a Peter Butler in Dublin

The family I have are Mary Jane 1835, Anne 1836, Margaret 1838, Anthony 1840, Catherine 1847, John 1851, Rosanna 1853, Alexander 1856, James 1858, Christina 1859, and again James 1862 but can not find the death of the first James 1858.
Mary Jane to Catherine were born in County Meath, John in Dublin, Rosanna 7 Lundy's Ct, Dublin, and the rest born at 6 Lundy's Ct, Dublin
Have not found an Elizabeth but the date would make her born in County Meath
I found John 1851, married in 1873 and died 1914 in Massachusetts. Father Thomas and Mother Jennie Miller
