No Bloomfield baptisms in Rochford between 1783 and 1812, which suggests they were either non-conformist or moved into the parish later and William didn't actually know where he was born.

There is a burial 5 April 1799 Anne daughter of James and Mary Bloomfield, but no corresponding baptism in the parish so probably from elsewhere.

As William is either "father in law" or "lodger" on the Census, the birthplace information may have been provided by somebody else in the house who thought he was born in Rochford.

21 Dec 1800 - Samuel Roberts Cook baptised to William and Elizabeth

Other children baptised to William and Elizabeth:

2 Nov 1794 - William Cook
11 Dec 1796 - Sarah Cook
20 Nov 1803 - Rebecca Cook
18 May 1806 - John Cook
1 May 1808 - Charles Cook
17 Nov 1811 - Elizabeth Cook

12 May 1799 - Edward Cook son of William buried
30 Mar 1803 - Sarah Cook daughter of William and Elizabeth buried
4 April 1805 - Rebecca Cook daughter of William and Elizabeth buried
8 Oct 1807 - Calonice Cook daughter of William and Elizabeth buried
14 Oct 1808 - Charles Cook son of William and Elizabeth buried

12 May 1826 John Cook and Elizabeth Mary Starkey married, both single, both of this parish, he signed, she made her mark.  Witnesses Samuel Cook (signed) and Sarah Mead.

Couldn't find a marriage for Samuel and Ann between 1821 and 1837, so would appear to have married elsewhere.  I also couldn't find a marriage for William and Elizabeth, although only went back as far as 1791.

wow! thank you so much smud and sue!
that's knocked down a brick or two...and so quickly!

We will have to buy a new thinking cap regarding the Bloomfields/Blomfields but this really has helped.

thanks again
