Jersey Archives has four records for Alfred Francis Hayward.
Two are WWII registration form/card identifying him as of Malaya, Bagot, St Saviour;
there are the same two documents for Ethel Blanche Hayward.
One is his will, dated 1953.
One is the will of Ethel Blanche Hayward née Grant, widow of Alfred Francis Hayward, dated 1954.

There aren't any images available on line for those docs.

If Donald Edward Grant and/or Marie Thérèse Grant had been in Jersey during WWII, there would be registration forms/cards for them in the archives, I think.

Ditto for Marie's brothers, no records in Jersey.

Matching deaths to birthdates in the pension records:

Percival George Hayward born Nov 1903 died in 1977 in Bromsgrove.
Alfred John C Hayward born July 1906 died in 1974 in St Austell.

Yvonne Ellen Hayward was 2 in 1911 and her birth is shown as October in the pension records, so the date must read 08. I don't see a matching death record in England/Wales.

The birth of Donald Edward Grant was registered in St Helier between 1912 and 1914, it is on Page 60 so probably around 1913.

His marriage took place at the Presbyterian Church in St Helier on the 6th June 1938

Donald Edward Grant, aged 24, bachelor, occupation Commercial Secretary, living in St Saviour, born in St Helier. Father George Edward Grant - Retired
to
Marie Thereze Hayward, aged 24, spinster, occupation Clerk, living in St Saviour, born in Ranikhet, India. Father Alfred Francis Hayward - Retired Curate

Witnesses L.C. Ingram and A.D. Courcouf (?)

Aha, excellent! So George did have another child after 1911! If Donald was 24 when he married in June 1938, he was born in 1913 after June 6, or 1914 before June 6, when the parents were about 42 yrs old.

So the date for MT's birth, in her father's pension records, would also be 1913 (rather than 1915). Born in Ranikhet. Well, I was close. ;)

Now as to whether Donald was a brigadier ... hmm ...

I shall dispel my doubts.

Googling various versions of the name, "brig d e grant" produces:

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/46056/supplements/10056/page.pdf

ROYAL ARMY PAY CORPS
REGULAR ARMY
Brig. D. E. GRANT (159819) retires on retired pay, 18th Aug. 1973.

So he was the person in the RAPC whose info I posted earlier from the London Gazette:

promotion of Donald Edward Grant 159822 to 2nd lieutenant on 7 Dec 1940
HILL, HOARE, BOND, SIBLY, Cornwall (Devon); DENNIS, PAGE, WHITBREAD, Essex; BARNARD, CASTLE, PONTON, Wiltshire; SANKEY, HORNE, YOUNG, Kent; COWDELL, Bermondsey; COOPER, SMITH, FALLOWELL, WILLEY, Notts; CAMPION, CARTER, CRADDOCK, KENNY, Northants; LITTLER, CORNER, Leicestershire; RUSHLAND, Lincolnshire; MORRISON, Ireland; COLLINS, ?; ... MONCK?

Thank you so much for all your efforts.  I spoke with my friend today and he is going to ring his sisters in Australia to see if they remember anything.  The one you found below is the correct Donald E Grant.
http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/35034/supplements/125
- promotion of Donald Edward Grant 159822 to 2nd lieutenant on 7 Dec 1940
(He was OCTU - Officer Cadet Training Unit (RAPC - Royal Army Pay Corps).)

It appears he was an accountant maybe in Jersey - he did die in Jersey 2005.
My friend also remembers visiting Uncle George at St Saviours.

Just seen all the other posts - wonderful don't think the sisters in Oz can have anything to better your research.  Thanks again, can't wait to inform my friend.

Thank you  la grande-méthe - one thing that is strange is the father of Marie Thereze Hayward - it should be retired Captain - so don't know where the retired Curate comes from.

The retired curate came from me being in a bit of a rush and not reading the entry properly. I ordered up the register again today and had another look - it is indeed retired Captain - Sorry!

Heh, I had just figured it was somebody somewhere misreading/mistranscribing something. ;)

So a retired Captain from the Pay Corps became an accountant -- makes perfect sense!

Hi JaneyCanuck - two different people Alfred Francis Hayward retired Captain - had a daughter Marie Therese Hayward who married Donald Edward Grant(Pay Corp) accountant who became a Brigadier.  Its quite easy to get confused especially when trying to help someone - I have that many names going around in my head sometimes I am not sure if they are my ancestors or someone elses.
