If anyone has any information on any persons with the name Janvrin Vincent as part of their name, please get in touch. I have found a link from South Africa but that is about it at the moment.

I have confirmation that Herbert Friedburg Janvrin Vincent lived and died in South Africa but I am trying to track the descendants. I have the following:

Name of deceased Herbert Janvrin Vincent
Birthplace At sea
Parents Herbert Vincent, Agnes Vincent
Age 59 years 9 months

Condition in life (occupation) Accountant
Ordinary place of residence 10a Croxteth Road, Green Point
Marital status Married
Name of surviving spouse Margaret Jane Vincent born Kelly

Place of last marriage Sacred Heart Church, Somerset Road, Cape Town

Day of the decease 1 February 1939
Where the person died The Monastery, Sea Point
Children:
Gladys Lilian Mary Collett born Vincent
Frederick John Vincent
Herbert Thomas Vincent
Ronald Joseph Vincent
Agnes Olympna Vincent
Margaret Teresa Vincent

I assume these children were born circa 1900/ 1910

Any help with tracking down these people would be appreciated. Being South Africa some of the records are a bit thin.

I believe he was buried in Maitland Cemetery, Cape Town. He died on the 1st Feb. and a Herbert Vincent is buried on the 3rd. Very likely, although it's in the Roman Catholic section. Considering the rest of the family were big Anglicans, that surprised me.

There is a Rorrel buried in the same plot in 1940. Note, Rorrel not Ronald.

Hi, I was told about this chat by one of my relatives. I am Agnes' granddaughter. Her name was Agnes Dympna, born 1923. I may be able to help with information on her and her siblings, but not sure I can answer your questions as to what happened to her ancestors.

Cathm. Thank you. Hopefully you may be able to fill a few gaps. If the right Agnes is your grandmother then I think that her father was my gg uncle. It's been a mystery because my great great grandfather disappears. Real struggle to find where he goes but there might be a family member with a story. Otherwise great to hear about the descendants.

Hi James,

I'll send an email in the morning - I will need to get my mum to check details. The Herbert Janvrin Vincent who died in Cape Town is definitely my great grandfather, and the details regarding him being born on a ship tally with what I've heard previously.

This is sounding promising. A brief history... there were several Vincents who were Reverends and as a result there was a fair bit of travelling on missionary business. A couple of years ago I found out that H F J Vincent went to South Africa. His brother stayed back in the UK and unfortunately died relatively young in 1918 with the Spanish Flu. However the whereabouts of both parents is a mystery. I have a photo of F A J Vincent (HFJ's brother) in Rangoon aged about 20-25 but I have no idea why he was there considering he wasn't one of the religious ones - ended up being a postmaster at Hythe Post Office.
