Catherine Cluskey from Drogheda
« on: Monday 06 March 06 05:10 GMT (UK) »
Hello from sunny Western Australia.
I would appreciate any suggestions re my research into Catherine Cluskey.
Catherine was the sister of my Grandfather Peter Moore. Parents were Patrick Moore and Catherine Segrave who married in 1864.
I have found the record of Peter's birth in 1865, along with 2 of his brothers, but I cannot track down the birth of Catherine. The parents of Peter did relocate to Belfast prior to 1891 so whether Catherine was born in that region I do not know.
Catherine Moore and Patrick Cluskey were the baptism sponsors for my Uncle George Patrick Moore born in Dublin (Parents Peter Moore and Mary Becton) in 1902. My Uncle died in 1999 (aged 94) and always believed his godparents married and ran a drapery shop in Drogheda.
In the early 1920' their was an ad in the 'News of the World' newspaper requesting the whereabouts of Peter Moore who was the recipient of the proceeds of Catherine's will).
My uncle saw the ad (of which I have a copy), rang the Drogheda solicitors to see what it was about so I feel he would have been correct with his information.
However, I have searched records for some reference to the will, spoken with the law firm, but without success.

I have failed in my constant searching to turn up any record of Catherine Moore or Cluskey. I have looked at the 1911 census but nothing.

Being such a long way from Drogheda I do not know which way to go from here. This has been an 8 year search.

I do know that Peter Moore was raised by an uncle in Moorechurch, Julienstown. The Uncle died in a farming accident (don't know who the uncle was). He joined the Dublin Metropolitan Police in 1865 with a recommendation from Major Pepper.

Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Regards Seymor

What about trying to contact a local newspaper:

http://www.droghedaleader.net/

The Drogheda Leader is a local newspaper to Drogheda (County Louth) and surrounds (would include parts of Meath i.e. Julianstown etc) ...

It is a free newspaper and is widely read as it contains local issues etc - after eight years, it might be worth a shot to contact them, they might run a story for you ....

Let me know how you get on .... Best regards, karen

Hello Seymor .... Sorry I haven't unearthed anything for you ...hopefully the local paper will be able to help you.. but over the easter weekend, I went on a drive to find Moorechurch ...... It took me about an hour driving around the area (no one had heard of it!).. but we found it .... Its in Julianstown .. and is basically just about 10 houses on either side of a road surrounded by beautiful countryside ... lots of cows !!... the old ruins of Moore Church, as is the graveyard which is still used today ..... I had a look for the names that you mentioned but couldn't find any of them .... There was a gentleman cutting the grass when we were there and he told us it was in ruins when he was a boy (he was about 60 y/o I reckon) and he hadn't heard of any of the names either ... but he 'thought' he had remembered the name Pepper ..... I have some pictures that I can post also - as soon as I can find my camera transfer cable!! I'll look for it today and download them for you ...

Kind regards ...Karen

Hi Colleen

You may want to delete your email address here - just in case you get spam to your email address.  I have just emailed you some pictures.  Let us know how you get on, sorry I couldn't help you with any of your names.

Kind regards, Karen

Opps! sorry about the sizing of the picture .. the page seems to have become all skewed .. Perhaps one of the moderators could help?.. Thanks. Karen
