Hi everyone,

thanks so very much for info.  Will try to find some more out while in Durham.
Thelma so much of what you had said connects.  My grandfather was adopted.  My mother spent a lot of her younger years in Thames and went to the local school.  When her mother died grand dad put all the children in Catholic Orphanages.   He remarried and had another 7 children.   Mum was at the Star of the Sea in Howick.  My mum Catherine May Parker (nee Curran) is the last of her immediate sibblings (has step brothers and sisters).  Mum is 91 and very with it.  Lives on the Gold Coast at Villa De Paul.  She will be so very very happy to see these links.

Here's hoping I find some info at Durham   Bonnie (Bonita Anne Guilford nee Parker).

Hi Bonnie
I tried to PM you again but your inbox is full :(
How detailed is your family tree, I have one that takes in all of Francis & his brothers children and a few generations after. I think it must have all of Francis & Mary (DORAN) descendants OUR line, even has you. I have nothing beyond Daniel having the 4 sons so fingers crossed you have luck while you are over there. Unfortunatley I have not verified it all but willing to share it either before or after checking it all.
PM me with your details and where you live.
Good luck on Tuesday  ;)

New members usually need 3 posts to use PM system so once bonita makes 1 more post you should be able to PM each other to exchange email addresses and recent family details which you aren't allowed to post on the boards.

Thank you aghadowey.
That was why I was trying to PM Bonnie, I couldnt remember how many posts were needed. Thank you for clarifying the number of posts.
It is very easy to get lost with the excitement, especially when you feel you may have a breakthrough after so many family members have been frustrated with brick walls.

Bonnie as I cannot PM you yet, here are the certificate details I have but I nave NOT got any certificates yet.

also the births of the first two kids -  James Charles KOGAN/KEEGAN 19.12.1859 Blackhill, Durham and Owen KOGAN 13.11.1861 as sea records, Vessel Ravenscraig Year 1861 No 38.

If you can get Owen's birth certificate I am willing to repay you, I dont have my Grandfathers.
Thank you very much

To save some bother I have the church marriage entry, I thought you must have had the certificate from what you were saying.

They married at Brooms, a church now in the middle of nowhere near Leadgate.
30th September 1858 (In Latin which I have changed to English)

Francis Keoghan of Berry Edge son of Daniel Keoghan
and
Mary Doran of Blackhill daughter of Edward Doran
witnessed by: Michael Marrin of Berry Edge and Margaret Carolan of Berry Edge.

Berry Edge was the old name for Consett which in 1858 was within the newly founded Catholic parish of St Mary's, Black Hill which was yet to to have a licence to perform marriages so that is why they would have had to go to Brooms, however the baptism of the child will be at St Mary's, Black Hill and those registers are at the Durham County Record Office too, but you normally need an appointment in advance to book a micro film reader.

Good luck,
J.T.A.

JT, I have sent you a PM about the church entry.

Personally I have no certificates but family members in NZ have but have not shared any copies even when offered to pay costs  >:(  That is why it would be good if Bonnie can get some for me too.

You are a gem of knowledge JT, thank you for sharing and helping others.

Hi guys,

this all sounds very interesting.  Sunday here so cannot call Durham to see if I can make an appointment until Monday.

My mum also said someone in NZ had records but they weren't prepared to share.  Crazy isn't it.  I must ask mum when I get back if she knows why.

Hopefully this posting also gives to go ahead of you both to PM if you wish.

Bonnie

I assure you it is not me, I only got a copy in the past few months and I WILL share. My opinion is what is the use in doing all the research if you keep it in a cupboard while other family members research the same family details. Hopefully between us we can verify the entries.  ;)
