Ray Townrow - WWFC
« on: Wednesday 28 March 12 13:17 BST (UK) »
I am researching a former footballer called Ray Townrown who initially played for Colchester United after coming through the ranks of Wolverhampton Wanderers. He played for the U's during the 1947/48 season but failed to make an impact and joined Clacton Town I believe in 1949 before eventually winding up at Bury Town. He was born on 20 December 1925 and died in 1990.

I am hoping that any Wolves supporter will be able to help me please in tracing further information on Townrow. He was a forward and I believe never played in the Football League and played only 22 times (scored 10 goals) for Colchester.

I would be very gratefully for any help you can offer me.

I have managed to have a quick look myself and from a family history reserach point of view have found some interesting stuff. He was born in West Ham and died in Chelmsford - his father was Frank Albert Townrow who was a professional footballer with Arsenal, Dundee, Bristol City and Rovers.

Frank's brother; John Ernest played for Clapham (Leyton) Orient, Chelsea and England.

I would like to know more about Ray's (Raymond Frank Townrow) football career.

I am attempting to create a one-name surname study on the Townrow's with the aim of eventually linking the Suffolk/Essex Townrow's to mine from Nottingahm.

I've only made a slow start but as time goes on I plan to continuly update the site. The web address is; http://townrowfamilytree.weebly.com

If anyone has any information regarding this family which they would like to contribute then please contact me.
