John Ovens of Drumbadmeen
« on: Monday 19 July 10 15:33 BST (UK) »
Hi

Could anyone help me? I'm looking up my family history and I gt as far back as John Ovens (1856? - 1929) m Margaret Dundas (1857 - 1923)

I've been trying to find John's parents, which I guess could be called Arthur & Ellen (Nellie) but I'm not sure. I've found his children in the 1901/1911 census.

John and Margaret married in Slavin C.O.I and were buried there along with Margaret's Parents. I can't seem to find anything on John's Parents, where they were buried or lived.. I'm assuming around the same area.

Any help would be appreciated

The marriage certificate should list the fathers' names and occupations.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi,
The IGI has an extracted record of Arthur Ovens who married Mary Carrot on 27 Feb 1849 in the parish of Innismacsaint. Using these names in a parent search gives some children who were born in the 1860s but no John. Two of the children were registered as born in Ely. Co. Fermanagh.

Regards

PS Arthur Ovens married Ellen McDermod in Slavin Church of ireland on 30 Mar 1855. Cannot find any children for this couple.

Where would I find the marriage certificates? The records in Slavin church were destroyed to my knowledge anyway.

The church records may have been destroyed (perhaps after being sent to Dublin for safekeeping) but the civil marriage record should survive.

sorry for the delay. I checked the civil records on http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails&c=fs%3A1584964 (this was advised by the boards)

I only found the two baptisms of John's children (Wm John & Arthur) I could not trace John's parents.
Do you have any other suggestions where to look?

Many thanks

As I said earlier, the civil marriage certificate should list father's name.
