Travelling showmen in suffolk. Osborne/Rush
« on: Wednesday 30 July 14 22:07 BST (UK) »
My ancestors where travelling showmen: Osborne & Rush. They seem to travel around the fairgrounds in Suffolk ( & Cambridgeshire). Does anybody have any information about showmen families in the late 1800's and the early 1900's?

have you had a look at the National Fatrground Archive site: http://www.nfa.dept.shef.ac.uk/intro/family.html to see if that gives you some avenues to follow in looking for these people.

If you haven't already done so you might like to read "Hancocks of the West" by Kevin Scrivens & Stephen Smith (ISBN Number: 0953509788
published 2006) to give you a feel for what life was like for travelling fair people.

Hope this is helpful
