Register of duties paid for apprentices' indentures, 1710-1811

Has anyone come across this register before?

I was researching the name Poignand (Hippolitus) and discovered that my potential ancestor had his apprenticeship dues paid by Jonah or Jonas Emery on November 11, 1770 (St. Martin In The Fields). Another Poignand (Louis) also had his apprenticeship dues paid by Jonas. The two Poignands did not undertake the same profession; Hippolitus was a jeweller/silversmith, and Louis took up medicine.

Would Jonas/Jonah be related to them, or was he just a guy in town that paid dues for people?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

From 1710 to 1811 the Commissioners of Stamps kept registers of the money they received from the duty on indentures. These registers now form the Apprenticeship Books (IR 1) which can be viewed digitally through DocumentsOnline

Thank you stanmapstone, this link helped me to understand several things:

1) Masters of a trade paid tax money to have an apprentice(s) -  {so Jonas Emery was a silversmith, since I know for cetain that Hippolitus was one. This also clarifies that Louis was a silversmith as well, which I can confirm through the society of Jersey, Channel Islands} There is another Louis who became a physician, and I confused the two.

2) The taxes can be paid at any time; before, during, or even after the apprenticeship has finished.

I can now neaten up my notes.

Hello I came across by chance yesterday the gravestone of Louis Poignand in Guernsey yesterday, it shows on the headstone that he was previously resident in Jersey, I thought this may be of interest to you.  Kind regards Pete

Are the actual records available to search? (Because I'm darned if I can find anything like a search engine on that site.) Or do I have to go somewhere from there?
I'd really like to find some apprenticeship records.
