Hello,

Is this Elizabeth in 1891 367 /43 /18

30 Chatteris Square Newington

George F Knight 51 yrs Caretaker of these buildings b Kent, Greenwich
Ellen 42 yrs b Essex, Dovercourt
Elizabeth 14 yrs General Servant b Deptford
With several siblings

Heywood

Thank you.  That certainly looks like her.  I'll have a look at her siblings.  She may have gone to live with one of them and maybe reverted to her maiden name.

Sarah was nee Collingridge, so presumably James' sister.  Alice Maud was the young daughter of Thomas & Sarah, born 1884.  She died in 1897, aged 12.

Absolutely right :D

James and Sarah were my 1C3R.

KNIFE and CLEAVER in the family but no FAWKES  ;D

Possible marriage: George Francis KNIGHT and Ellen CROSBY

On the same page, Jun qtr 1872 St Saviour 1d 113.

Thank you.  That looks very promising.  I'll follow that up after dinner.

If that is Elizabeth, I think her father is a widower in 1901. Losing her children and maybe her mother - she may be in an institution perhaps?

Is the 1900 death of Elizabeth Collingridge born also 1900, St Saviour Southwark anything to do with your family?

Apologies - Ellen is CROSSBY rather than CROSBY.  It looks promising.  George, already a widower, was a mariner, consistent with the 1901 census.

That's interesting that the baptism is Elizabeth Martha rather than Elizabeth Francis  ???

It would be worth checking the birth
Elizabeth Collingridge December quarter 1900 St  Saviour, Southwark 1d 41
and the death in the same quarter 1d 23

They may be relevant.

Is the 1900 death of Elizabeth Collingridge born also 1900, St Saviour Southwark anything to do with your family?

And having her husband walk out on her.  It could have caused her to have a breakdown.  That is a possible reason why James kept returning to see her.  Trouble with institutions is patients are sometimes noted by their initials only.  It'll keep me out of mischief for a while ;)

Elizabeth b 3 Oct 1900 d 1900 was the dau of William Thomas and Ellen (nee RICHARDSON).  They're half cousins, direct descendents of my 4xgt grandfather's only son by his first wife.
