This Holborn baptism in 1784 might be him, although it is recorded as Shenton.

The 1851 gives his place of birth as County N.K. London  (County not known London)  ;)

The baptism in Holborn is a good possibility though it is clearly Shenton accents often lead to mis-spelling. The address of the family was Theobalds Road.

There is a marriage in Westminster in 1809 John Shenton to Elizabeth Lones which would probably tie in with a Holborn birth.  :-\

There is another in Bermondsey in 1807 for a John Shenton (bachelor) to Ann Pledge

They really need investigating further to eliminate them.  Was John Shinton a bachelor when he married.

Rosie.
Thanks for that information the name shenton did come back to my gran
in birmingham and carried on as shenton even now so really that looks good.
on the ancestery 1851 census it read n london i thought that was north.
it probably started as shenton and when they went to shropshire it was miss heard
as shinton as i have been to shropshire archives and got all the baptisms of johns children all say shinton.
thanks again i will look into your info.
Keith.
