John Augustus Costigan & Ellen Ward 1885 (ish)

Where was John Augustus Costigan born and when and where did he marry?

There is no birth reg in 1917 for a Michael Ward Costigan in Portsmouth nor for Winifred in 1915.  Winifred married in Sussex in 1933

What was Ellen's maiden name and where was she born

I know that both J A C and Ellen both came from London, they moved to Hampshire.

Ellen's maiden name was Ward.

Winifred married in 1933 and became 'Chapman'.

Michael Ward Costigan died in the second world war.

But find much out about their parents is quite difficult

There were 4 children born to the Chapman marriage between 1933 - 1944 - are they still alive and could they provide you with further info?

Unfortunately its believed only one is still living ..... and like you could probably guess .... thats who I'm researching on behalf of as this person knows nothing about her grandparents.

 In 1881  census  at  North Hyde Hounslow St Marys Orphanage  there's a 10 year  old John Costigan,    his  birth place is London Middlesex ,   but  this  COULD be the John Augustine Costigan born Lambeth  ( details   in earlier  posts on this thread)

The free 1911 index has a John & Ellen Costigan living in Hampshire who seem to be the same couple as the ones listed in the 1901 in an earlier reply.  I personally don't think this couple are the parents of Winifred & Michael given their ages etc

Where was Ellen's maiden name obtained as there is no marriage and no childrens births?

Does your friend have a copy of Winifred's or Michael's marriage cert confirming their fathers name and occupation?

Michaels wife - Joan Edith Costigan nee  Dunsmore was b 29.11.1918 Sussex and died there in 2001.  She did not re-marry.

One child was born to that marriage in 1939.  No marriage or death found for the child so probably still living

I don't want to get your hopes up but there is a slim possibility I may have found the child born in 1939.  I have telephoned and left a message on the ansaphone as to what it's about and said that I will ring again tonight

I made the call again but it is a different person who was born in Manchester and now lives in Sussex
