hi
did you have a look at the griffith valuation site, www.askaboutireland.ie? if you search by place name, with ballinacarrig on it, you will find ballinacarrig road on the southside of carlow town, you are given the option to view a map of it made in the mid 1850's, there are a few houses along it, though nothing said rosedale cottage on the map. Take a look, you can at least draw a conclusion that is in one of a very small number of locations on that road.
all the best

Diarmuid

Yes, I am pretty sure I can help if you are who I think you are!   Are you son of Francis Crowe (as my mother always called him)   She was a Scully from Carlow town who was a first cousin to Francis and his siblings.   He emigrated and went to live in Luton.  If you are who I think you are, I have quite a lot of info on the Scully side - maiden name of your grandmother Crowe.

Regards

Mary
