I have recently received the death cert of a Patrick Coyle from the recorders office in san Joaquin California. He died on October 29th 1938. His death cert states that his cremation took place in San Joaquin crematory and his URN is numbered 4382. My query is, were the ashes scattered or buried?

I have asked this question previously but did not receive any replies. I have received the death cert of my grand uncle from San Joaquin county California. His name was Patrick Coyle born Ireland 1891 died San Joaquin October 29th 1938. The death cert states cremation Urn 4382 at San Joaquin county crematory. My question is: at that time were the ashes in creamation Urns scattered to the wind or were they interned in burial plots. My grand uncle was a miner and died from TB. Thanks
