Hi Norrie

My sister-in-law sent me the link to this topic.  I looked through your list and found 5 couples who are related to me and would be grateful for the inscriptions and photos of them. I don't know if you have a limit as to what you provide - I don't want to be too cheeky.

They are:
David Douglas and Lillias  Bruce CO105
John Douglas and Margaret Bonthron CO106
William Johnston Douglas and Lucy Melville Myles CO107   The 3 of them being brothers

Kenneth McKenzie and Ann Muckarsie CO157

William Petrie and Janet Smart CO 179

Kind Regards

Leslie Haynes (nee Kirkcaldy) from Australia

Hi Norrie

Thanks so much for those photos and inscriptions - they all belong to my tree.  Also, I see you have included one more Muckarsie so I will see where he fits in and there is some extra information I can work on now.

The 3 Douglas brothers, John David and William  are all brothers of my great great grandmother Mary Dougas who married Richard Muckarsie.  I have Richard dying 28.12.1849 in Collessie and Mary 3.06.1877 also in Collessie.  They were not listed on your Cemetery lists so I didn't ask about them before but I was wondering if you do have them.  Maybe they are buried in the old part of the graveyard or don't have a headstone if you don't.

Thanks so much again for your efforts
Leslie Haynes

Hi Norrie,

Thanks for checking Mary Douglas and Richard Muckarsie for me.  I got the death certificate for John Muckarsie - he never married and was living with his sister, Ann and her husband Kenneth McKenzie from 1891 to 1911 Census probably till they died.

Have you a Margaret Muckarsie b. 1836 in Collessie in any of you records?  She is the daughter of Richard and Mary above. She gave birth to my great grandfather, James in 1859 in Edinburgh - his birth certicate shows him as Muckarsie and illegitimate but the family always knew him as James Mowat.  I have not been able to find James in the 1861 or 1871 Census but then he appears as James Mowat in 1880 marrying Jane Smart in Collessie, listing John Mowat as his father.  Margaret is a complete mystery.  I have not found her in any Censuses and any deaths and marriages for Margaret Muckarsie do not seem to fit.

Kind regards
Leslie Haynes
Even on James' death certificate no parents are listed.
