Title: ST MARYS marriage 22 SEPT. 1912 Olldham, Samuel GOLDTHORPE
Post by: cumrew on Saturday 06 April 13 12:55 BST (UK)
Please can you tell me if Samuel Dent Platt GOLDTHORPE  married Eveline SNAPE?

at St Mary's Oldham 22 sept 1912?

How can  I check if the father of Samuel is Tom Dent  GOLDTHORPE?

Can i find if the mother of Eveline was ASHBY,  and who was her father...?
Thank you for any possible suggestions to sort this out?

4Q1912 Marriage Index shows:-

Snape, Eveline  to Goldthorpe  Oldham Regn Dist.  8d 1099

But Goldthorpe isnt paired in the index - prob a page number mistran.

Yes, here he is:-

Goldthorpe, Samuel D P  to Snape  Oldham  8d 1296

According to FreeBMD, The expected page range for this district is 989 to 1279   .... its clearly 1099 on the original image - its the entry above that is 1296 ... I've left a Postem note for you.

Obtaining the actual Marriage Cert will answer some of your supplementary Q's.

You could try working back in the BMD Indices & Census to ascertain Ms Snapes parentage.

You have to go back to 1881 before Sam was born! to find his Father (mum Elizabeth a Widow in 1901, and cant find the Family in 1891)....... turns out that she was Maiden'ed PLATT, and living with a Tom Goldthorpe in her Fathers house in 1881. Tom was born c1848, in Royton, Lancs and was a Book Keeper - Iron Foundry

Hi
If you want a copy of the Banns record for Evaline Snape, you can download it for free from www.familysearch.org
If you haven't done this before, don't put a name in the box go down to United kingdom.
then choose lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire parish registers
Choose browse all images - I suggest you . in your favourites for future use.
Choose Lancashire than find Oldham St Mary
