Have you looked for any Allard/Allwood wills regardless of first names?

Only the one of a Great Aunt who died in 1916, would there be wills as far back as 1773 for ordinary folk, some who supposedly could not even read or write, James Allwood did sign his marriage lines though.

I am such a novice I feel foolish even posting in this thread.
Don't feel foolish  ;), it's great that you are already 'giving back' to rootschat members by contributing help to a thread. You'll learn from it too, just like we all did [and in my case at least still do].

Lateral thinking, off the wall ideas, lightbulb moments, a fresh eye, going back over old ground & rechecking - all can be useful in making a chink in a brick wall.

How true that is, Only this afternoon someone has told me that they have seen a birth about 1747 of a James Allwood on someones family history born in 'St George in the East', Middlesex, so once again the chase is on. I know that there used to be a Work House there as well, just perhaps! As they say all contributions and advice are most welcome anytime. Its the only way that we learn and enjoyable at the same time.
Thanks.

If you enter St George in the East in the 'place' search on familysearch.org, you can find out what film they have for church records/poor law union records etc. if the information is not online anywhere, you can then order the film for viewing at a local Family History centre [usually your nearest LDS church].
From this page http://www.workhouses.org.uk/StGeorgeInTheEast/ it appears that the workhouse in St George in the East opened in 1824, too late for your man.

Doing the same on familysearch for Wetheringsett shows 2 films having been made of parish records 1566 - 1800; the original records are in Suffolk records Office - have you seen these?

Someone else who is also tracing the Allard Family Tree has been to Ipswich and looked at the Microfiche records for the marriage. Thanks for the date of the Work House opening though, that rules that out.
Thank you very much for your information, much appreciated.
