New Scottish Genealogy Website
« on: Friday 01 August 14 21:54 BST (UK) »
Our new website www.scottishindexes.com is now live!

We've tried to improve the search experience, results page and the 'Summary of Results Found' pages.

We've also added various help pages, both specific to our website and general genealogy help.

Online now are the following indexes:

1841 Census

1851 Census

1861 Census

Prison Registers

Sheriff Court Paternity Decrees

Non-OPR Births/Baptisms

Non-OPR Banns/Marriages

Non-OPR Deaths/Burials

Coverage varies for each, see here: http://www.scottishindexes.com/recordsets.aspx

We'll be updating our indexes almost daily.

Oh and did I mention, you don't need to register, it's free to search. There are fees for some services but we always give the reference number so if you are able to go to the National Records of Scotland you can look at the record yourself and not pay a penny for it!

We're working with volunteers to make this all possible so a huge thank you to everybody for all your help and support!

Emma

Best wishes for the success of an ambitious project, BUT....

You do need to make clearer in your publicity that your records do not yet cover all of Scotland, but only the south-west. Prospective searchers will be happier if they know the early limtations, and might be tempted to re-visit now and again to see how much further north and east your records have developed.

Thank you djct59, it's great to get feedback. We have a new resources, which will be onine in a few days, which are not location specific and that's why we've made the change to 'Scottish Indexes'. We had hoped to get these online today but we had some issues to resolve and wanted to get this new site online on schedule.

You're right though, at the moment the majority of our resources are focussed on the south of Scotland. Full coverage for each record set is listed here: http://www.scottishindexes.com/coverage.aspx

We have loads of records to index and we're now looking for volunteers so if anybody has any time please do get in touch.

Thank you Emma for the new site.  I have managed to find a lot of Cassy's and now need to tie them up with my existing information.

Nice website Emma - not overly fussy and complicated - intuitive and easy to use, just how it should be.

I will try some searches later to see if I can locate any of my Dumfriesshire research interests.  :)

Congratulations on the opening of your new website.

Looks to be very straightforward to navigate.
Unfortunately for me it does not yet cover my areas of research but I'll be popping in now and again to check for additional records.

Best wishes Margaret

Good luck with the new site. You're still a long way south of any area of interest to me, but I'll look forward to you working northwards.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
