1858 "ship "John and Lucy" to Aust
« on: Thursday 15 May 08 07:41 BST (UK) »
I read a message inrootschat from someone called Moore, and now can't find the source
They had a relative come out on this ship

Hope you or someone might have a passenger list or info where I came look up for:

Anne Crowe .

I do have her on the Diggers immigration to Vic but am hoping for more information so I can be sure it is a correct link
Thanks
Sue Rob

Hi

Are you in Australia? The passenger lists have been filmed and a available at a couple of pplaces but may not be of much help as they usually didn't give much more than on the index.

If you search on the link from Jenn and just put in the name of the ship and date it will give you the complete passenger list, there may be someone else onboard to help you

You need to search detailing the ship as John & Lucy not John and Lucy, otherwise you will get a nil result.  The ship's name and passenger list is on the Assisted Passengers list.  There were 99 passengers on board in 1858 but I can't see Anne CROWE's name.Perhaps the ship made more than one trip in 1858.

May I ask what is the Diggers Immigration to Victoria?  I haven't come across that before.

Terra

Hi Terra,
Thanks for the info re writing the dhips name - so easy to make errors when noting items, esp when using search engines.
The 'Diggers' is a name given to several Victorian Family History search  CDs that you can purchase  of BDM's. I luckily was given them, but a lot of gene soc/liraries have them available to use
The info I had was off the Immigration to Vic CD
cheers
Sue

I have all the Vic bdm disks but wasn't aware of one called Immigration to Victoria  Lucky you receiving them as a gift - put a bit of a dent in the bank balance when I purchased the series.

Wonder why Anne CROWE's name didn't appear on the PROV Assisted Passengers on the John & Lucy in 1858?

Terra,
Where are you situated?
The info I have actually was printed out at the library in Bendigo Vic and the heading is
Digger - Immigration 1852-79
I can't find it on my copy and as you say Anne Crowe is not listed on the internet site
I'm sure she is 'my girl' and now want more info about her to verify some facts.

Sue,

I will have a look at the manifest for the John & Lucy, later today when I go to my local library.

Terra,
Anne Crowe's name is on the unassisted shipping index (PROV), John & Lucy.

Hi

You need to search detailing the ship as John & Lucy not John and Lucy

On the PROV site Anne Crowe arrived on the John and Lucy in December 1858. At first searching on the ships name comes up negative but if you put a blank space before the ships name, and select Dec 1858 it brings up all 395 passengers names.

It looks like when the entries  were transcribed the transcriber did not start on the extreme left when typing the ships name.

I just double checked and it doesn't matter whether you use the word and or & both work, but you do need to leave a blank space before commencing the ships name
