Pocahontas's descendants
« on: Friday 12 September 14 09:11 BST (UK) »
When I first met my son-in-law (a Rolfe from SE England) over 15 years ago he told me of a family story that they were descended from Pocahontas and John Rolfe. At the time I wasn't involved in family history, and a quick look on the computer only revealed one grandchild (Jane) for Pocahontas - a girl whose descendants were not Rolfes but Bollings.  I then forgot about the story.

However recently we came across an account that Pocahontas's son married twice and produced two sons - both surnamed Rolfe - who may well have produced English descendants.

Can anyone tell me how I can find out more about these two boys (if they actually existed!) as I've only been able to discover the Bollings line.

I feel I owe son-in-law an apology after dismissing his story so long ago!

Thank you for any help.

Wikipedia states:

Pocahontas and Rolfe had one child, Thomas Rolfe, who was born in 1615 before his parents left for England. Through this son, Pocahontas has many living descendants.

Following the links on Wiki for Thomas, takes us to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Rolfe

Where it states that Thomas had 2 daughters (no sons!)
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

As with all family histories, start with your son-in-law and work backwards.

You may stumble around a bit as not all parish registers are online but the records should be there to find eventually.
