I assume you have gathered this from trees on Ancestry!

Like the submitters of these trees assumptions seem to have been made - i.e. that because Robert was buried in Banningham in 1784, aged 50, it's 'assumed' that he was born there too.

Original Banningham parish records can be viewed on familysearch.org - I have just searched the baptisms 1725 to 1740 - no Robert Slapp baptised there in this period at all, nor any other Slapp's.   The earliest Slapp baptism at Banningham wasn't until 1761.

Clearly, he wasn't baptised at Banningham.

I looked for your Slapp family on Freereg http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl No baptisms for Robert Slapp (tick Soundex for spelling variations) in either Banningham or Gimingham. There is a marriage between Robert and Ann Slaughter in Banningham 10 November 1755 and the burial you have-Robert Slapp widower and pauper. The only birth to the couple is Ann baptised 1756. Other baptisms are to other Slapp couples.
I see the Ancestry trees have given the couple Edmund baptised Gimingham 1761 and I can't find him either. They don't seem to have any evidence except other ancestry trees.
The trees can sometimes be useful as a general guide but you're right to look for record evidence for yourself. It may be worth contacting the tree owners on Ancestry in case they have evidence that doesn't show on their trees.

No joy finding Robert Slapp's baptism.

Interesting marriage at Felmingham found in the Bishop's Transcripts - another place only a few miles from Banningham and Gimingham.

Robt Slap married Ann Gambling in 1729  -  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01e6r/

Unfortunately the registers for Felmingham are very patchy, and I couldn't find any baptisms at all by this couple.

Thanks Yokel, saved me a bit more looking.

I'd seen the trees on Ancestry that Annette mentioned, but none of the ones I looked at had any proof of the marriage I posted.

Tiddles, there are a couple of Wills and an Admon on the Norfolk Records Office site relating to Robert Slapp.

There's also a settlement certificate which looks as though it may refer to "your" Robert -
