Hi,

Looking at Elizabeth's marriage record it shows her father's occupation as an Ivory Turner.  :)

Marriage of Elizabeth Ann Grant's parents -

James William Grant
Age - 29
Spouse - Jane Eliza Humphrey
Spouse Age - 21
25 Dec 1862, St Simon Zelotes, Bethnal Green
Father Name - James Grant, jeweller
Spouse Father - Robert Humphrey

Hopefully the above will help to find James William Grant (born 1833) with a father who is a jeweller  :)

I think the marriage record says that james grant is traveller. It says Robert Humphrey is a shoemaker. They both lived in butler street. I googled it but there's nothing left there. It's just flat sadly.

William grant is a witness to the marriage. A brother maybe?

Thanks for the correction (must get these specs changed  :)) ) My apologies for the misleading info.

I found a census that fit the Grant family but the father was a traveller. I'll try to find it again.

Is this your James and Jane, with daughter Elizabeth?

1881 living in shoreditch (next to Bethnal green) but both born in Northampton, James around 1849 and Jane around 1851.
Children elizabeth 1873, charles 1877, Ada 1879, Edith a 1881, jennie 1889, James 1890
If it is, James william grant was a boot clicker. I looked it up and it was someone who cut the boot uppers from leather. It was the best paid and most skilled job in shoe making. Jane and some of her daughter's including Elizabeth, were boot machinists.

Maybe it's not the right family? Let me know and I'll see what else I can find.
