hassard family
« on: Saturday 20 November 10 18:11 GMT (UK) »
My ggggrandfather John Alexander Hassard b. 1815, Enniskillen and his wife Catherine Strong b. 1820, County of Fermanagh
came to Canada around 1845. I have been trying to find information about their families in Ireland without any success.
I would appreciate any words of wisdom in how to continue my search and / or if anyone has information about the Hassard family that you might be willing to share with me that would be a great help. They settled in Howick Township, Huron County, Ontario, Canada. Thank you Deblee

Re:    Your John Alexander Hassard b. 1815
Who were their children???????

------------     -------------------------------

I am trying to find my JOHN Hassard b. abt. 1835
I would like to know who he was married to and who his children were.

He did have a son ALEXANDER  who married Emily Perry 13 Dec. 1867
and may have had a son Jason - possibly others.

ALEXANDER Hassard and Emily Perry  had about 7 children
Their son WILLIAM Hassard married Elizabeth Johnston of Enniskillen
for some period of time they lived in Bawnboy, Cavan.
and had children ..... John Andrew, William and ALEXANDER

John Andrew and William remained in Ireland but my father ALEXANDER b.1905 immigrated to Canada in about 1923

IS THERE ANY CONNECTION ???????
I'd love to hear from you.

I don't think so, but I have read previously that Enniskillen Library has back copies of the 2 main local papers.

Brenda,
The familysearch.org site refers to a will of Alexander Hassard of Gardenhill near Enniskillen. The will was dated 17 Dec 1808 and the site also states that Alexander's father was Jason, an unusual name at that time. However this is a submitted record so  should be treated with some caution.
Griffiths Valuation (1862 for fermanagh) gives an Alexander G Hassard holding property in this townland.

Regards
Stewart, Irwin, Morrison, Haslett, Murrell - Dungiven area Co. Londonderry
Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

Brenda- there are lots of Hassards mentioned in PRONI will extracts (www.proni.gov.uk)- including two Jason Hassards- died 1876 and died 1899 (age 61 according to civil registration index). Civil registration index also has a Jason Hassard died 1884 (age 58).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I'm seeking out anyone related to Captain Jason Hassard and was/is related to my Poppy (James Patrick Hassard) from Gilford (Down), Ireland.  I have been interested in meeting potential relatives for several years.
