I have one where Isabella appears on one census as Elizabeth - at first I thought it was mistranscribed but looking at it it says Elizabeth, neither she or her husband could write (marriage certificate has their marks) all I can think of was the person filling misheard (or scribbled and misread their original)

I also have a Joel who turns into Joseph after 20 years in the workhouse - (pet theory being he was known as Jo(e) and someone just assumed the full version - luckily his surname is unusual and no Joseph exists before Joel disappears)

So may be worth looking for similar sounding names - Mariah maybe?
