Chequerfield House, Penn Fields, Wolverhampton
« on: Saturday 01 February 14 20:23 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information regarding Chequerfield House, it was demolished to make way for Shenstone Court, at the top of Coalway Road, the Lodge House still remains and is on Stubbs Road, near to the Penn Road end.

Many thanks

Kizzy :)

Hi - don't know exactly what info you're after, but www.historywebsite.co.uk/interesting/lodges/lodges has some info on it. Other entries seem to  deal with
what you already know.

Thanks everlea i will have a look at the web page.

I was just wondering if the terraced cottages in Chequer Street which would have run alongside  Chequerfield House belonged to the owner?

Regards
Kizzy   :)

Wish I could help more but don't know the area, I'm afraid. Perhaps you'll find something on the website  that will
help to answer your question - good luck!
Everlea.

Hi Glenn11,

I want to know if the houses in Chequer Street had anything to do with Chequerfield House, as I had an ancestor living in Chequer Street who was a gardener, they previously lived in Rookery Lane which is just a stones throw away, and wondered if maybe he worked at Chequerfield House?

Good luck with your day at the archives.
Regards & Thanks

Kizzy

Hi kizzy,
The document was a little book listing the contents of the house after the death of a Mr.William Fleming. However,i found the maps ,1889 and 1937.I took photos on my mobile, they show the house and streets around it.I will send them if you contact me with your e-mail.Also,if you let me have the name and dates of the person you are looking for,i will look in the gazette books ,but it would be next Tuesday.Glen

I have been to the archives today and asked for you.We could not find anything about the area, the streets.roads were not listed. It may be due to boundary changes.I looked in the census books, and could only find one reference.1861=John Lea,Labourer, birth Codsall, wife Jane ,born Trowbridge,Charwoman, living Rookery Lane(if I remember rightly). You probably know that anyway.Sorry,i couldn't find more out.Hope you got maps last week.Glen
