Rhoda Caswell b.1858
« on: Thursday 27 February 14 13:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi :)

I have been tracing this relative back using census's and parish records and I'm a bit confused.
She was born on the 1st June 1858.
She married Samuel Hartill on the 1st March 1876.
On the 1881 census she was listed as a visitor at her brother's William Caswell (and his wife Laura Brown) house with a Phoebe Hartill. Also listed as a visitor was a Lizzie Caswell who was 3 months old. This alone confused me but what else has confused me more is that i can't find her on any 1891 census. Its like she disappeared for 10 years as i found her in 1901 living with her husband and 5 children.

Can anyone shed any light on the please?

Hi

She's with her husband and children in Sedgley in 1891, as Rodha Hartell.

 :D

Unfortunately that does tend only to find recognised variants of a name, so it will find Lizzie if you search for Elizabeth but not Rodha for Rhoda.

A useful tip in those circumstances is to pick another member of the family who should be there for the relevant census (I picked daughter Alice) and hope their name hasn't got contorted.
