1869 Coroner inquest in Tredegar
« on: Monday 21 January 13 03:21 GMT (UK) »
I'm interested in finding more information about the death of Thomas Price on April 21, 1869 in Tredegar.  His death certificate says, "Coroner for Monmouthshire inquest held April 25, 26 & 28th 1869" and lists his cause of death as "Inflammation of the lungs caused by injuries he received by having been abused".  Does anyone know if coroner reports still exist from this time period, or if there was a write up about this incident in a local newspaper?  I live in the USA so any help in finding more information would be greatly appreciated!

Think this may be your man.  Inquest on Thomas Price died 21 April as result of of violence received on the 8 March from a drunken brawl.  A Dr Brewer undertook a post mortem on the 24 April.

So pleased to help - and I know exactly how you feel its great when some somehow unachievable information comes to light.

The newspaper was the: The Bristol Mercury (Bristol, England) Saturday May 8, 1869.
(lots of Welsh information was regularly published in the Bristol Mercury & other Bristol papers).

Also have this for you from: The Western Mail (Cardiff, Wales) Saturday May 1 1869.  I will have another look through see if anythin further on the trial.
