I have lost Harriet Cope
« on: Wednesday 13 August 14 16:38 BST (UK) »
I have a Harriet Webb baptised 27 Jan 1822 who married George Cope on the 4 Oct 1840 in Woking Surrey, he died 2q 1844 Camberwell 4 37.
In 1871 Harriet Cope is living with her sister Alicia Smith and family in Shoreditch, Middlesex. After that I have lost her.

Could this person be her; and if so; which gentleman was her husband?

Surname    First name(s)    District  Vol Page
            Marriages Jun 1871

COPE    Harriet       St. Giles 1b 753

Gray    Richard       St. Giles 1b 753

Haywood    Maria    St. Giles 1b 753

Can any say when George Cope died in 1844?

Adolphus William Pulman (b 1848) married a Harriet but she seems unlikely to be yours as they were fertile through the 1880s.

Added: censuses show his wife Harriet Pulman as born Staffs c1853.

This Harriett Cope married Adolphus Pulman - just did an 1881 census search for him as easy name and his wife is Harriet so I assume the other couple married.

This can't be her though as Harriett Pulman is only 28 and born Staffordshire

Hi,

Not sure about this but......there is an entry for a George Cope of Camberwell dying on Saturday 22nd June 1844, aged 71.   (From London, England,  Deaths & Burials 1813 - 1980) Burial on 26 June gives his abode as workhouse.   :-\

The parish register entry for their marriage (1840) gives his age as 21 and Harriet as 18.

So it looks as though the 1844 Camberwell death is not the right George as his age is way out.

If Harriet was born in Weybridge then she is shown in 1851 (aged 28, visiting a Wood family in Hackney) as married, not widowed.
