« on: Friday 23 February 07 15:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi all. :D :D

I am looking for a girl called

Alice (May or Mary) Fitt born 1871 in Norwich, Norfolk.....

She lost her mother in 1878 Sarah Ann.....
Alices father is alone in the 1881c  Frederick...occupation...(Baker)

Alice is boarding as well in another house.....
In 1901c she is married to a James Russen....they married in 1896....

The family tale goes...that ...Alice was sent to Canada and then she worked and saved up to pay her way home again.....there is about 15yrs for her to leave England and come back again....can anyone find her shipping...

Thanks JO.

This site, as you may already know, has lists of passengers leaving U.K...
http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action
Says no matches, although the database seems a wee bit glitchy...
...Had she been in Canada for the 1901 we may have had her year of immigration listed...otherwise it's a major trawl through ship's lists....and apparently they aren't complete or all online, so all the work could be for naught...:-\

Got any easier questions? I really, really wish I could help....you've been so helpful to me  ;D J.J.

Hi KarenM,

I don't know anything else.....my lovely friend who is 85yrs old, has just found her long lost rellies back in England, and this is just a little problem that she would like to solve.....apparently it has been a talking point over the years......

I will start a trawl through the shipping that JJ provided.....which I didn't know about by the way.....

Don't worry any further,

but thanks  for your interest....

regards,
Jo

well, I haven't thtuck my tung to any pothts yet...but yes, it's that cold!
I once stuck mine to my alluminum toboggan and then saw my mum running with a kettle...thought she was going to put hot water on my tongue, so ripped it away...oh, yes, it hurt!
"Uh, I was only going to warm up the metal so it would release your tongue"...."Dow you Dell be!"

I have many snowbanks for sale...white, pristeen...hopefully temporary!

oh, my goodness, you are going to go through several years of records...wow, you're a terrific person...

But then we knew that!  You too, Karen!
Thanks both for the compliment!   J.J.

Hi Jo,
Alice May Fitt was my Great Grandmother. she did marry James Russen you're quite right.
Their son Arthur Leonard Russen was my Grandfather and his eldest daughter margaret is my mum who is sitting next to me at the moment.
Who are the people looking for Alice May?
I would be really grateful for any info you could find for me or new contacts.
The family all came from Norfolk England, and many are still there.

Hello, Lynn, and a big welcome to rootschat...

(Hi, Jo & Karen... My, it was nice to reread those lovely compliments!  ;D)

Had a new peek at the British Home children database, as it gets updated...but still no sign of her there, or on any online available info on BHC...
But it surely sounds as though she may have been sent to Canada as a child...
Hope your elderly pal is still around to hear of a new rellie...

Maybe Karen can find her on a ship's listing now!

all the best, J.J.

Wow!! That was a fast reply. I've not taken part in a forum talk before. I guess that all the people involved get to see the messages.
I'm off for a weeks hol with my mum to Scarborough in Yorkshire so won't be at home for a while.
Look forward to chatting when I get back.
Lynn
