Jemima Aspland 1847
« on: Sunday 09 February 14 07:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi, the above is proving to be a difficult one, finding myself going backwards & forwards checking & re checking without getting any where... what I have so far, she is on the census as being born in Newark Nottinghamshire, she wed my ancestor in 1868 in Boston Lincolnshire ( George Stephens).
I can not find her on  census  for 1851 0r 1861, I was really hoping to find her parents, Any one with any ideas please.

Thanks

John

Transcribed as Ashland on Ancestry! :o

And father transcribed as Samuel?!
Searching also not helped, because Ancestry think Newark is in Northamptonshire! ::)

Tannard Aspland 1807 Horneshead, Lincs
« Reply #4 on: Sunday 09 February 14 09:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi, thanks for the help , I would like to be able to see the above`s parents, I checked for him born in Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire with no luck, he is 44 in the earlier post which would make him born about 1807, the problem I have is linking him in with the other members of the tree. This is what I have, Jemima 1847, dad Tannard 1807, his dad Tunnard 1779, I really would like to find the census entry for myself but feel I am missing something . If he was born in Horneshead then it should be straight forward enough.
Any ideas.....
John

Which census are you looking for? And which of the 3 people?
What software do you use to look at censuses? Ancestry? FindMyPast? FamilySearch?

If he was born in Horneshead

No such place ... 1851 census has Swineshead. :)

Could this be him? https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NGPX-V28
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Hi an earlier post from Kay99 said 1851 census Tannard Aspland  bn Horneshead, Lincs, is this wrong ? he is with wife Jane bn Quadring.
I use Ancestry to search the census of Tannard & I think his dad was Tunnard, I made the mistake of using the hints that appeared on Ancestry and now finding them to be wrong or well out. I have started again with factual events dates & marriages, but struggling to identify ancestors in the census. Jemima Aspland wed George Stephens in Boston Lincolnshire 1868, I do have her parents, but that is it.

As I said before - in Ancestry, 1851 census you need to look for Jemima Ashland, with father Tannard Ashland!

It's a transcription error, as it looks like Aspland on the original census page.

And remember that the census is only as accurate as:
1) the information given to the enumerator,
2) the enumerator's understanding of what he was told, and how he chose to write it,
3) the vagaries of the transcription!
